Presentations and Emceeing

I've got big skills when it comes to teaching and presentation. One of my specialties is translating complex topics into easy-to-parse language. I've developed a few short (60 to 90 minute) presentations on the web as it relates to writers and artists. These presentations are delivered in an entertaining and professional manner.

• Writing The Land: The Writers Guild of Alberta Conference. September 2007. Facilitated "Bridges to the Outer World" breakout session with Eric Barstad and Alexis Keinlen.
• Writers on the Web: The Edmonton Public Library. November 2007. Delivered a variation on the Bridges seminar to a group of 40 writers at the Edmonton Public Library. Here are my slides from the presentation, if you're interested.
• The Writer Online: Canadian Author's Association Conference. July 2008. Delivered a presentation focusing on writers establishing themselves on the internet. Covered websites, blogs, best practices, Facebook.

Emceeing

I've got seven years experience behind the microphone. I've emceed more events than I can count. I know that a host makes or breaks an event, and I know what a well-run event looks and feels like. I've developed a reputation for professional, entertaining, witty emceeing.

• Raving Poets Host and Emcee. 2002 to present. Host and frontman of the Raving Poets Experience, a group of musicians and poets who stage two reading series per year.
• The Wednesdays Reading. September 2006. Host and emcee for a reading by Edmonton's infamous Wednesdays. Staged as part of the Edmonton Poetry Festival 2006.
• Three Day Novel Contest. (on Book Television) September 2006. Emceed the performance portion of the Three day Novel reality show presented by Book Television. With the Raving Poets Band. Broadcast across Canada.
• The Roar Spoken Word Festival. 2005 to present. Host of the grand finale wrapup with the Raving Poets Band.
• Various. Book launches, school events, various off-beat and bizarre readings.
